CLEANING A GLASS COOKTOP WITHOUT LEAVING STREAKS OR SCRATCHING THE SURFACE
Follow the steps below to clean a ceramic glass cooktop, so that spills and messes don’t harden and become tougher to remove.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
SUPPLIES
- Glass cooktop cleaner, such as affresh® Cooktop Cleaner
- Dish soap (optional)
- Vinegar (optional)
TOOLS
Cooktop scraper
Oven mitt
Non-abrasive cleaning pad
Dry, soft cloth
Spray bottle (optional)
Only use recommended cleaners as directed by your model’s owner’s manual and always review a cleaner’s specific instructions to perform an effective cooktop cleaning. Doing so will help prevent streaks or scratches on your ceramic glass cooktop.
1. MAKE SURE THE COOKTOP IS COOL
Start by confirming that your cooktop is off. Remember, you should only clean a glass stovetop that’s warm to the touch. If you just cooked with your appliance, let it cool until it’s warm. While not mandatory, you can spray your cooktop with vinegar and let it soak into any residue as the stovetop cools.
2. SCRAPE OFF EXCESS RESIDUE
While the cooktop is still warm, use a cooktop scraper to help get rid of excess residue. Scrape your cooktop at a 45-degree angle to help avoid scratching the surface. You can wear an oven mitt while performing this step and never use materials like steel wool to avoid damaging the cooktop surface.
3. USE A COOKTOP CLEANER
Apply a non-abrasive cooktop cleaner to the surface using the recommended amount according to the package instructions. Use affresh® Cooktop Cleaner for more deep-cleaning action.
Apply a few drops of the cleaner and then gently rub it onto the cooktop surface with a non-abrasive cleaning pad. Allow it to dry into a white film before performing the last step, which is to polish it with a dry, soft cloth.
Alternatively, a homemade cleaner can be made by combining equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle and then adding a few drops of dish soap. Next, spray your cooktop with the cleaning solution and let it sit for several minutes, then wipe the surface clean with a non-abrasive cleaning pad.
4. REPEAT STEPS 1-3 UNTIL YOUR COOKTOP IS CLEAN
If your cooktop’s surface is still dirty, simply repeat steps 1-3 until it is cleaned to your liking.
HOW TO REMOVE BURN MARKS FROM A GLASS COOKTOP
